The Centre for Effective Altruism is looking for a Director of Development

We are looking for a Director of Development to join our team in Oxford! The right candidate would play a vital role growing and sustaining the donor base that enables Giving What We Can and our sister charity 

 to serve their charitable missions. You can read more about the role below. If you're interested in this opportunity please apply

CEA is a young and rapidly growing charity which has grown to a £300,000 annual budget over 18 months. We are located in central Oxford and affiliated with Oxford University. As described above, in this role you'll be fundraising for both Giving What We Can and the other innovative organisation that is part of CEA - 80,000 Hours. CEA has a track record of incubating new charitable projects and is continuing to expand into new areas.

In order to meet its growth targets CEA has set the ambitious goal of raising an extra £150,000 over the next year. Currently CEA is funded primarily by 'high net worth' individuals, but also by a number of medium-sized donors and grants.

For this role we are interested in people with previous experience in fundraising, in particular the following activities:

Writing fundraising materials (e.g. pitching projects).

Identifying, establishing and building relationships with major donors.

More general donor relationship management.

The ideal candidate would also have a degree, be a fast and compelling writer, cope well with stress, and be keen to work with a young team in a startup environment.

Contract details: We would be willing to pay up to £40,000, depending on experience.

Opportunity to intern with Giving What We Can 

Recruiting now; apply by 9am (UK time) on Thursday the 16th of May.

If you're here, you probably have a good idea of what Giving What We Can is about. Our mission is to find the charities which most effectively help those living in poverty and move as much money to them as possible, in part by encouraging people to pledge to donate 10% of their lifetime income to this end. That's a big project, and we're growing fast. To support this growth we now need someone to help manage our finances and fundraising, so if you'd like to join the team this is your chance!

The position we're recruiting for is Finance and Fundraising Manager. In this role, you would work closely with the director of our Operations division, which supports the different organisations within the Centre for Effective Altruism, including Giving What We Can and our sister charity 

. If you work for us you'll be part of a focused team of intelligent, enthusiastic, driven colleagues. Everyone involved in CEA is passionate about their work, making the office an inspiring place to be.

The current Finance and Fundraising intern has helped to write budgets, set up a new charity in the US, and create financial procedures and book-keeping systems almost from scratch. In doing so, he's made a major difference to the success of Giving What We Can and the Centre for Effective Altruism family that it belongs to. If you follow him, you would do so too.
